Go Green with Grandview Sustainable Landscape Practices!

Grandview’s ongoing support of the environment and of green technology is evident in their day to day operations.  Environmentally friendly practices are employed throughout all phases of landscape and hardscape design, including material choices, construction, demolition, maintenance and waste removal, whenever feasible.

Recycle Sustainable LandscapeGrandview Puts Waste to Good Use!

One example of Grandview’s green initiatives relates to how they handle waste.  There is usually a good deal of waste in outdoor projects, but Grandview doesn’t simply head to the nearest landfill to dispose of it, where it will sit for years and years.  Instead, they take a few extra steps to separate waste from each job, so that items can be recycled or re-purposed, whenever possible.

Example:  Hardscaping waste gets new life…

Grandview installs a new paver patio where there once was an old concrete patio.  The concrete from the old patio is placed into a specialized concrete bin and is then taken to be recycled.  The concrete is crushed and made into a material called RCA (recycled concrete aggregate).   RCA is then purchased to be used when laying the base for the paver patio.  If this had not been done, the slabs of concrete would be sitting in a landfill forever.

Example:  Landscaping waste reduces water consumption…

Grandview installs new landscaping on a property.  Any brush, leaves, or grass that is removed is taken to a nearby yard waste recycling facility.  The waste is then put through two processes – first it is ground into large debris, and then that debris goes through a chipper to grind it down even further to create landscaping mulch.  Mulch is then used around the new landscaping to keep the soil moist and cut down on the water consumption required to sustain the new plantings.  Again, if this waste had not been recycled, it would be taking up loads of space in a landfill instead.

Water Conservation Is A High Priority for Grandview!

Rain water and water consumption is becoming a growing problem for many local towns and municipalities.  One way to avoid excess water consumption when rainfall is down, or to avoid excess erosion when the skies open up, is to install a Rain Garden.  Grandview professionals can install a Rain Garden, designed with a combination of water tolerant plants, stones, and proper design and drainage, to effectively use rain water to sustain plants and avoid potential flooding problems.  This keeps rain water from running off the roof of your home, picking up debris along the way, and running onto your neighbor’s property or potentially clogging up roadways, or even worse – causing basement flooding problems.  Ask Grandview how you can make the most of rain water in your new landscape design!
